EVENTS THIS WEEK AND NEXT SEPTEMBER 12 - 26

MINDSET FOR YOUTH LEADERS

Mindset is an interdenominational 'Youth Leaders Training & Support Network', for anyone passionate about communicating God's Word to young people. Johnny Beare, Youth Leader at St Elizabeth's Church, Dundonald, invites them to come along on Tuesday 14th September 2010 from 7.30-9.30pm.

Johnny says, “Throughout 2010/11 we will have some vastly experienced Bible teachers helping us through a series titled 'Christ in All the Scriptures'. As youth leaders we are convinced that we should be teaching the whole of the Bible to our young people; but how do we teach the Old Testament and continue to point our young people to Jesus Christ?

“This month Gary McMurray will help us delve into Genesis 3 and the verses that Martin Luther called, "the first proclamation of the gospel". In the second half of the night  will be considering together some good and some bad reasons for being involved in youth ministry.”

KESHER COURSE AT STORMONT

The Kesher course, which was run at St Molua's last year, looks at the Jewish roots of the Christian faith and the place of Israel in God’s purposes today. It begins on Tuesday 28th September at 8pm and runs on successive Tuesdays for 10 weeks.

The Kesher Sessions, produced originally by the Christian Friends of Israel, are being conducted by The Revd David Humphries, Rector of Stormont.  David is a frequent traveller to the Holy Land, and conducts a pilgrimage there each year.  He is particularly interested in the Jewish roots of the Christian faith, and in the unique role played by the Jewish people in God's plan of salvation.

"During the course," says David, "we hope to enrich our understanding of Jesus and the Bible, deepen our trust in God's faithfulness, and build up a better understanding of current events in the Middle East.

"This course reminds us that Jesus was Jewish and that we Christians owe a debt to the Jewish people, into whom we have been grafted as the covenant people of God.  The Kesher Sessions will show us that centuries of Christian anti-Semitism has kept the people of Israel separated from the Church, as the Church drifts further and further from its origins."

    * Christians and Jews--blood brothers or separated brethren?
    * Israel—political accident or covenant people?
    * And where does the Church fit in?

These and other questions will be explored in this autumn session, lasting about ten weeks, which will show the connection between Judaism and Christianity, Israel and the Church.

    * The Jewishness of Jesus & Jesus the Rabbi & Jesus the Messiah
    * The Jewishness of the Scriptures & Salvation is from the Jews
    * The Great Divide & Anti-Semitism
    * Physical Restoration and Rebirth of Israel
    * Israel - Prophecy fulfilled & Israel today and tomorrow

The course is both thought-provoking and challenging, with some lively discussion.  Each session begins promptly at 8pm in the Hamilton Hall at St Molua's, and everyone will be made welcome.

St Molua's Parish Church is situated on the Upper Newtownards Road, Belfast, quite close to the Stormont Hotel, between Summerhill Avenue and Rosepark.
