THE WEEKEND PRESS

Alf McCreary had a fine article in Saturday’s Belfast Telegraph which paid tribute to Cecil Kerr and Ray Davey - clergy who saw needs and programmes to meet those needs which the established churches with all their resources and fixed positions could not or would not address.

Billy Kennedy in the churches’ Pages of The Newsletter on Saturday morning did a good journalistic job in making the Bishop of Clogher’s address to the Dublin Hard Gospel Conference accessible to the person in the pew and street. The full text is on the Pess Release section of the C of I web site. Go on yourself - have a go at it! Its another sterling contribution from Bishop Michael, but it takes some digestation and the team here at ICR is a fan of the man.

The C of I Press Releases contain excellent news of a first class appointment at the C of I Theological Institute. Canon Ted Woods is going to do a day a week on lining up ordinands with parish placements. With his own experience of life, parochial work and his remarkable sense of humour, under God, good things will happen.

Interesting report in the Cof I notes in the Irish Times highlights a weekend of Hugenot celebration. This is a heritage which places like Lisburn should also be exploring - a town where there once was a French speaking school.  Paddy McGlinchey from CITI is going to hold forth on the subject of his doctorate thesis - Pope Benedict and evangelicalism. But we don’t think that even with the help of Tony Blair he could swing it for Benedict to preach for his bosom friend Big Ian  at the Martyrs’ Memorial - well not before the next 12th July.
