MOTHERS’ UNION HOPE FOR EAST AFRICA INITIATIVE

The Mothers’ Union makes a massive impression in the current issue of “The Church Times”, the leading Anglican weekly newspaper, with a half page full coloured advert , “Hope for East Africa”, and a coordinated booklet insert with resources for Harvest included with each copy.
The sub-title “We’re giving thanks this, harvest, for provision and sustenance the world over… leads into the message, “Last year harvests failed across Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. But £180,000 from Mothers’ Union supporters kept thousands of families alive.
“Now, when most aid trucks have left again, Mothers’ Union is still there, helping to rebuild lives and create sustainable, drought-resistant farming.
“In East Africa, just over a million people are members of the Mothers’ Union, a number that has been growing since as far back as 1908 in Uganda. They are local people, in ordinary communities, perfectly placed to help families become resilient to drought, and survive times of scarcity,
“Its at the grassroots that things change. Mothers’ Union spreads farming knowledge that will protect crops, and conserve protect crops, and conserve water for the dry season. We help families to save fuel, food and water in their homes, safeguard children’s health, and build a sustainable income and savings methods. We do this year in, year out, come rain come drought. We’re there caring for families at the grassroots in 81 countries…”
