Retirement Of The Dean Of Belfast

The Very Revd Houston McKelvey announced to the Cathedral Congregation on, Sunday 7 November 2010, that he will be retiring in April of next year. The Dean had already intimated his intentions to the Bishop of Connor, the Rt Revd Alan Abernethy.

The Dean expressed his thanks for the support which he had received from his clerical colleagues at the Cathedral and the members of the Cathedral Community during almost ten years of ministry.

During this time the Spire of Hope was erected, the positions of ecumenical canons were established and the partnership with St Peter’s Cathedral strengthened.
The Dean will commence his tenth annual Sitout for Charities with the members of the Cathedral Chapter on Thursday 16th December.

Prior to his appointment, Dean McKelvey was for 20 years the Secretary to the General Synod Board of Education. Before that he was rector of St Hilda’s, Seymour Hill.
He has been ably supported by his wife Roberta during his ministry. Mrs McKelvey is a Central Trustee of the Mothers’ Union.
