BLAIR AND ATHEST TO DEBATE RELIGION

Former PM Tony Blair will take on ‘new atheist’ Christopher Hitchens in a debate on the value of religion.

Hitchens, a British journalist and author, has debated several Christians in recent years, but Blair is his highest profile opponent yet. In the event, planned for Toronto, Blair will support the motion that ‘religion is a force of good for the world’, in opposition to the title of Hitchen’s book: ‘God is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything’. Blair was famously once advised not to ‘do God’ whilst Prime Minister, but since leaving politics he has converted to Roman Catholicism and set up the Tony Blair Faith Foundation. Hitchens is currently suffering from cancer, but Christians have launched a web campaign to pray for him.
