IRISH METHODISTS OMMISSION NOT SINISTER

The Methodist Church of Britain has given reassurances that its relationship with the Irish Methodist Church has not changed.

This affirmation was made after it emerged that the contact details of Methodist ministers in the Irish Conference have this year been omitted from the British Church’s annual Minutes of Conference.

In past years, the Minutes have included names and addresses of all the ministers within the Irish Conference. However, the 2010 volume departs from the traditional practice: it simply lists the details of the Secretary of the Methodist Church in Ireland, the Rev Donald Ker, and directs all inquiries to him.

Explaining this move, Assistant Secretary to the British Conference the Rev Ken Howcroft said: “There is no change in the relationship with the Irish Conference. It is an autonomous Conference, not a sub-section of ours. The British Conference has no jurisdiction over it; but it is our closest partnership, both historically and actually in the present.” - Report The Methodist Recorder, October 14.
